"A group of fellow grad students and I were each handed Meaning Maker pamphlets while leaving an exhibition of tired old hacks (oops, I mean "professionals") in the incestuous print world, who have apparently been repeating the same themes in their work for at least ten years now. Perhaps we were spotted as a disenchanted lot, who wish to resist this bleak and burned-out fate to someday become our own. Enter Meaning Maker-- the highlight of the whole freakin' SGC conference!"
"Meaning Maker blows all recent art I’ve experienced out of the water. Art in brochure form?, what a hoot you folks are. It’s like a judgment test. We’ve never applied ourselves to an artwork so in-depthly. Thanks for helping reveal things we didn’t previously contemplate."
"I am so excited to have a signed edition of Meaning Maker from the Southern Graphics Print Conference! I love the tacky blue pamphlet of this contemporary print project AND the smart assessment of the conference experience it critiques. Thank You Meaning Maker!"

May 1, 2007- New York, NY. Rhonda Schaller Studio is proud to present Crossroads, from May 31 through June 23, 2007. Opening reception June 7th, 6 - 8 pm. A group exhibition of 27 artists, working in an array of materials from traditional watercolors to computer generated graphics, from human hair to found paper. The selected artists travel through a soulful array of artistic directions, each one an authentic voice within the collective crossroads of contemporary art.
Selected from the gallery’s inventory of Art Link Network artists, each artist has contributed a work that illuminates life’s rugged terrain with purpose, articulating boundaries encountered in themselves or in the world around them - in shape, color or materials, one or all of which is at the heart of their subject matter. We see in each art work an illustration of the intrinsic connectedness each artist has to the poetry of the familiar, a revelation of home found in self-questioning, whose intent only a modern look at society and self could reveal.
Participating artists are Monique Ford, Mare Vaccaro, Elena Fajt, Vlatko Ceric, Daniela I. Ovtcharov, Desi Minchillo, Helen R. Klebesadel, Cynthia Eardley, Randee Silv, Clare Murray Adams, Laurie Joan Aron, Kari-Mette Astrup, Ellie Brown, Sandra de Nijs, Johanna Gillman, Carrie Hoelzer, Jacqueline Jrolf, Elizabeth Leader, Julian Lesser, Mary Kay Neumann, Susan Sanborn North, Jeremias Paul, Sherry Shine, Millee Tibbs, Sheryl Westergreen, Olivia Carol Williams, and Nanette Wylde.

Curator's Statement:
Over the last few years, a new group of artists have emerged that package themselves as corporate entities. They develop a company name, a branding scheme, and utilize the language of advertising and marketing. These individual artists and collectives create art objects, marketing materials, and performative event-based pieces that can exist in a gallery setting as well as in the public sphere. Much of this work centers around issues of capitalism and consumerism. By putting this work within the context of fictional products or alternative services, we are able to engage in a more enhanced conversation around topics ranging from globalization, immigration reform, and health care in a way that is whimsical and visually inspiring.
